Bacherol Degree programmes

1. Bachelor of Laws (36 months)


Host: Department of Administrative Studies

The Faculty offers a Bachelor of Laws degree based on a combination of taught courses and a dissertation. The programme involves full-time study for three years, each year being divided into two semesters. In total, there are six semesters to be covered before one graduate, and each semester carries the weight of twelve (12) credit points. The long vacation after completing second year studies is devoted to students’ field attachment, and the purpose is to enable students to merge the theoretical knowledge gathered in the classroom with the practical life beyond the classrooms. At the end of the field work, each student is required to produce LL.B dissertation. At the end of the programme, graduates will be able to serve in the legal system; provide legal services both in the public and private sectors of their countries and analysis legal documents for legal opinion, both to individuals and the public.

Core courses: Legal Methods I & II, Land Law I & II, Jurisprudence I & II, Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure, Law of Evidence I & II, Civil Procedure I & II, Law of Contract I & II, Law of Tort I & II, Law of Business Associations I, Labor Law, Legal Systems, Constitutional Law, Administrative Law I & II, Family Law, ADR, Communication Skills for Lawyers, Development Perspectives, Public International Law, Legal Research, Legal Skills, Private International Law, Computer Skills, Accounting for Lawyers.

Elective Courses: Legal Aspects of International Trade and Investment, Intellectual Property Law, Securities Regulations, Taxation Law, Insolvency Law, Arbitration, Environmental Law, Criminology and Penology, Customary and Islamic Law, Banking Law, Insurance Law, Negotiable Law, Media Law, Computer/Internet Law, Human Right Law, Law of the Child, Health Law, International Humanitarian Law, Convening Law, Law of Succession and Trusts, Sales and Goods & Agency, Law of the Sea, Social Security Law.

2. Bachelor of Business Administration (Marketing Management) (36 months)

Host: Department of Business Studies

This is a three-year, six semester programme of 17 weeks each. The programme requires candidates to successfully complete a total of 60 credit points including a field project in the fifth semester of study.

Core Courses: Mathematics, Statistics, Micro-Computing and MIS, Micro-Computing and MIS, Physical Distribution Management, International Marketing, Principles of Management, Basics of Finance and Government Accounting, Cost & Management Accounting, Basic Financial Mgt. I, Strategic Marketing, Micro Economics, Macro Economics, Sales Mgt., Retailing & Wholesaling, Strategic Business Management and Consultancy Skills, Commercial Law, Introduction to Marketing, International Cooperation and Development, Entrepreneurship & Small Business Development, Marketing Application Packages, Communication Skills, Development Prospective, Business Communication, Research Methods for Marketers.

Electives Courses: Supply Management, Public Finance and Project Management, Gender Respective & Environmental Management.


3. Bachelor of Accountancy & Finance - Public Sector (36 months)

Host: Department of Business Studies

The programme is designed to produce professionals in Business Accounting and Finances Local Government Accounting and Finance, Public Sector Accounting Finance and Investigation suitable for the Tanzania Government Environment. On successful completion of the programme, graduates will be exempted from foundation and intermediate stages of NBAA scheme of examinations. The graduands will also be exempted from seven papers in the fundamental level of ACCA. Mzumbe University is currently the only institution in the country with such an arrangement.
